Hip-Hop in NYC

This section will have various articles and information on how Hip-Hop has had an undoubted influence in New York's growth and development.

Hip-hop has been a critical ingredient to what makes New York,New York since it's beginnings. Artists like KRS-One,Rakim,and groups like Run-DMC put New York into homes across the nation in a way the country never saw. They showed 1st hand the struggles of city life and trying to make it to bigger and better things. New York has always been considered one of the hardest places to grow up,and succeed in. The projects and tenament buildings that landscape the city provided the fuel for artists in the rap game to paint a picture of the hassles and struggles of inner city life. Everything from the way people speak to the way the youth of America dress has much influence from the rap/hip-hop culture. The city's nightlife is mostly focused on the 21-35 yr. age group of men and women, and the majority of them go to the hundreds of Hip-hop clubs and lounges that are scattered across the whole city. New York is very diverse(now more than ever)and now many other cultures have adapted their own style of hip-hop. It is not only accepted now,but embraced. Hip-hop is no longer looked at with that critical eye, like they're just waitin for someone to get shot or something. It is finally respected and recognized as MUSIC. New York's venues and clubs have allowed artists to showcase their talents and be seen for what it is. Hip-hop's not just a bunch of young people cursing and waving their hands. The youth have lots to say about the injustices and struggles of growing up in NYC. New York just gives you that sense of security, knowing that if u need it you can go out and get it. It's a city of do-ers,not say-ers. In short,Hip-Hop and New York go together like B-Boys and a dancefloor....
